Once upon a time, our early ancestors obtained nutritional benefits because of their wisdom teeth. Used for chewing and biting through dense and coarse foods, they served an essential purpose. Nowadays, though, these third molars only take up space, causing irritation, pain, and damage to other healthy teeth. At Downtown Dental, we can remove these non-essential teeth to provide maximum space and comfort. Schedule an appointment with a member of our team today if you are ready to undergo wisdom tooth extractions in Allen.

The Wisdom Tooth Extraction Process

Wisdom teeth can erupt one of two ways: partially or fully. Patients whose teeth push through completely may not experience any issues; however, those with partially erupted wisdom teeth may find that cleaning them proves to be difficult over time. There is also the reality that wisdom teeth can remain impacted beneath the gum line, never erupting but instead, causing problems for nearby teeth.

Depending on your situation, Dr. Randhawa will evaluate your smile and decide how best to remove these teeth. Many patients have all four extracted in the same appointment, while others may only have one or two taken out. The choice is ultimately up to you and our team.

If one or more teeth have already partially erupted, it’s often an easier procedure because dental instruments can be used to gently rock them back and forth until they detach. However, if they’re impacted, surgery must occur to remove the teeth in pieces so that it does not disturb as much of the existing bone.
